What is the Benefit of Local SEO? How it benefits your business.

Local SEO is very important. If you have a local business, you will be able to get more traffic from Google than ever before, with local SEO. We will give you all the information you need to make sure that your local business is getting the best possible results for your keywords.

What Is Local Search Engine Optimization?

SEO or search engine optimization is a broad term that encompasses a variety of techniques and strategies used to optimize a website to help it rank higher in search engines like Google and Bing.

Local SEO is a smaller subset of SEO that focuses on optimizing a local area, such as a city or town, to help a company achieve greater visibility in a highly targeted search market.

In this post, we will explore the benefits of local SEO, and why it is a vital component of any SEO campaign.

Local search is when people search for businesses or services within their own neighborhood, city, state, or country. This is a huge market that continues to grow. Over the last couple of years, Google has been rolling out more local search results as an additional feature to their search engine. This makes sense, since local search is often used by the local residents to find places that are near them, or they have a specific interest in, and need to find.

Google understands that people want to be able to find the best local service and businesses, so they want to provide those results when they’re searching for local information.

In addition to the traditional search engines, there are many websites that specialize in helping business owners and entrepreneurs get the best ranking for local keywords.

Why Your Business Needs Local Search Engine Optimization

Your business doesn’t need a massive audience to reap the benefits of SEO. Google has made clear that most businesses with under 5,000 monthly visitors see the majority of their organic traffic from their local area.

So, I wrote a post about this: why you need to invest in local SEO.

A recent study found that businesses with under 2,500 monthly visits see over 25% of their traffic from local searches. In fact, one in three local businesses who rank for “local” keywords on Google (without doing anything to improve their ranking) don’t rank for those terms at all!

Google has made clear that most businesses with under 5,000 monthly visitors see the majority of their organic traffic from their local area.

When a visitor comes to your business’s website via a local search, it’s important to know what he’s looking for, and how to convert that search into action. A study of the top three organic results for local queries found that 81% of them are visited within 24 hours of being shown in the search results.

When someone types in your business name or location, it’s critical to be able to provide a user with the information he needs quickly and efficiently. In this way, local SEO can be a game changer for your business.

What are the benefits of local search engine optimization?

For businesses with brick and mortar locations, there is a significant difference in search results between searching for local or national keywords. When people are searching for a local business, the results are more relevant and provide better customer service.

In a 2016 study conducted by Google, 75% of people used local searches and they expect to use these searches at least once per month. This means that if you don’t invest in local SEO, you’re losing an opportunity to serve customers.

One of the main reasons why companies should be investing in local SEO is that most customers who perform local searches are located within a 10 mile radius of the business location. So by investing in local SEO, you are more likely to see a direct increase in your conversion rate. Local SEO is an excellent way to improve the visibility of your business in your area.

How to Optimize Your Website for Local Searches

Want to dominate Local SEO in your city? When people type “local restaurant,” or “local car dealership” or “local grocery store” into Google, what are they looking for? Chances are, it’s a place to eat or shop that’s close to home. And that’s where you come in.

Your website should be optimized for local search terms in order to appear high on those searches, as well as on local directories, search result pages, and other local search engines.

  • Use local keywords. This typically includes using your town or city in your keyword.
  • Have a local address (not a PO box)
  • Have a local phone number
  • Use your Google Business Profile and make sure you have the same phone and address as your website
  • Blog consistently

There are also a few guidelines any website should follow to optimize for SEO like mobile friendly, fast load speeds, and enough content.

How to Find the Right Keywords for Your Business

To do this effectively, you need to conduct some keyword research and analysis to see where you need to focus your efforts. You can use several online tools to help you. Here are a few of our favorites:

Wordtracker – This is one of the most powerful keyword research tools on the market. It’s free to download and easy to use. It’s a great place to start.

Google Keyword Planner – While this tool is great for the big picture, it doesn’t give you much insight into the performance of keywords you’re targeting.

SEMrush – SEMrush is one of the most powerful tools on the market. It allows you to see how many times specific keywords have been used to find your competitors’ websites, and it shows which ones are performing best.

Google – do a search for your industry or services and check what other people are ranking for. You can also check the related keywords and questions on the page.

Once you know which keywords are driving the most organic traffic, it’s time to refine the list. Remember, you don’t want to overthink this. When you’re creating content and optimizing pages, the goal is to get as many keywords as possible in the page title, page description, and URL. It doesn’t need to be perfect — in fact, it’s better if it isn’t. The idea is to get as many of those search terms as you can on the page as quickly as possible.

Local SEO Tips: Using Maps and Reviews to Increase Traffic

One of the best ways to boost local search results is to focus on improving local listings and reviews. When customers can quickly find information about your business, they’re far more likely to call or visit. To get ahead, start with:

• Adding accurate and complete addresses to your business’s local listings. Include phone numbers and any relevant website addresses.

• Getting customer reviews on sites like Google Business Profile

But you don’t have to rely on Google to improve your local SEO. One of the best ways to boost local search results is to focus on improving local listings and reviews. When customers can quickly find information about your business, they’re far more likely to call or visit.

To start, you need to make sure your listing has all the details you want people to see. Add accurate and complete addresses to your business’s local listings. Include phone numbers and any relevant website addresses.

Get customer reviews on sites like Google My Business. As a business owner, you know how important reviews are and how important social proof is.

There are many options when it comes to local directories and Google Business Profile might be the most important. This is because when you do a Google search, Google shows their map results in the “local pack” ahead of other results. But, you should still make sure you have your business listed on any and all possible.

How to Improve Your Local SEO Ranking

There are many methods for improving local rankings and we wrote a guide to the Top 3 Local SEO Hacks to rank your business to help you out. Some of the most common include optimizing your site for a particular area, building up a following and engagement, creating reviews, adding listings, link building, and even using social media to your advantage

As a local business owner, not all of these are accessible to you. Link building might not be the easiest thing for a busy person to do. The easiest and best things you can do are to make sure your website is strong and has a great foundation and to ensure your Google Business Profile is fully filled out and is getting good reviews consistently.

However, if you need some help, I wrote a little bit about how much you should expect to pay for SEO for your local, small business. (Hint: it goes from $1000/mo and up).

How to Increase Local Business via Mobile Search

It makes sense that people would want to find businesses in their immediate vicinity. It’s a quick and easy process, and with smartphone technology becoming ubiquitous, it has never been easier to find local businesses.

I’ve said it a few times but you need to be on Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business). Not only does this make you show in the local pack but also on Google Maps.

A mobile search can be on Google itself or in Google Maps. You’ll want to make sure you have this online property claimed so that you can show as much as possible.

Key Strategies for Local SEO

Local SEO is about building authority for your company within your geographic area. It is a critical component of any SEO strategy. Local businesses can easily get lost in the “sea of SEO” because they’re not ranking at the top of SERPs. They’re not dominating the organic search results.

  • Create a Google Business Profile. This is a simple, free way to add information about your business to Google.
  • Start getting reviews to your Google Business Profile.
  • Start optimizing your content. Create high-quality content about your business, including photos and videos.

And that’s all that’s required. I know it’s easier said than done but it’s possible to do on your own without paying thousands for an agency to do it for you.

I've been making websites since I was a kid and now have over 20 years of experience building them for myself and my agency. I noticed patterns of problems that all business owners experience with their websites. Problems that most business owners don’t even know matter, let alone how to address. I built Pagemend to help people stay on top of their websites.
